Performance Statistics

Since the Office of Clinical Trials opened in 1992, -one of the first in the United States – the number of clinical trials, the revenues derived from those grants and contracts, and the number of sponsors (government; industry; foundations) have all risen significantly.

Fiscal year 2000-2001 was another exceptional year for sponsored clinical trials at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. During that period, a total of 184 contracts and grants for new clinical trials were initiated.

Total projected revenues from these new studies amounted to $36.2 million, representing a 6.5% increase over the FY 1999-2000. During the 9-year period from 1992 through 2001, some 1259 new clinical trials have begun.

Building upon this record of steady growth, figures for the first 9 months of FY 2001-2002 show the addition of another 165 new grants and contracts having projected revenues of $31.1 million, amounting to a total of 1424 new clinical trials since 1992.

With a total contract value now in excess of $283 million through March 31, 2002, the direct and indirect revenues from these trials have been specifically directed in support of clinical trials, education, and the infrastructure for conducting clinical research at our institution.
